The winery itself is an old farmhouse surrounded by sequoia trees in the heart of Rutherford - it's a prime location yet a lot of tourists seem to bypass it to go to the larger, more famous neighbors. That's definitely their loss as the wines at Sequoia Grove are excellent, the location is stunning and the service is always good. The wines are well priced and the tasting room is a comfortable size. A great place to visit.
Attended the members party on opening day for 2001 Reserve Cabernet. Initially service was poorer than we normally experience. Event was busy and overwhelmed the tasting room staff. Service got better during our time there.
A few weeks later we got a free shipment 3L of 2002 Cab that was raffled at the winery - and my name was picked out of the hat !!! |

| Favourite wine of the day. Fruit forward in the French style. Firm structure with a big finish - This wine will last years. Lengthy tannins and a great wine. Definitely one for the cellar.

| Lots of fruit on the nose, supposedly a bad year in Napa, but this wine has good body and the classic volcanic ash rutherford cabernet tones. Good tannins with a nice smooth finish - always impressed with the Sequoia cabernets. |

Oct 25,08: (B-C) 81% CS, 8% Mer, 8% CF. You can taste the smoothness of the Cabernet Franc and the finish of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Good, but not great - was hoping for more. It may improve in time as this was the first tasting. |

No real fruit left and had limited flavour on the finish. It should be noted that this vintage was not from the estate, as they has a disease in the vines. |
