1115 Loma Vista Drive, Napa, CA 94558 Phone: 707 257 7922 Hours: By Appointment Only Tasting Fees: No Charge White Rock Vineyards is a working underground winery with 6000 sq ft of caves dug from the white volcanic ash that gives the winery it's name. The winery produces about 3000 cases of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from the 36 acre vineyard. It is a little off the beaten track and hard to find but well worth the visit. We met Michael at the winery, were given a tour of the vineyards and the caves and then proceeded to have a tasting of all of their wines. Michael even offered us barrel tastings and we were able to see how the wines were progressing. The Chardonnays were crisp and the Cabs are very big and need some time in the bottle. We really enjoyed our visit and the hospitality was excellent. The tasting room is in the caves with the wine and caters to about a maximum of 8 people. You definitely need to call ahead if visiting but definitely recommended. |

| 2002 Cave Hill Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($85) | Rating: C May 16th, 2009 |
| We drank this straight out of the bottle so it was cold and needed time to open up. It was nice to try a Cab with a little more age as the younger Cabs just were not ready to be drunk. Good fruit and structure. Nice wine but a lot of competition at the price |
| 2004 Laureate Cabernet Sauvignon ($50) | Rating: B-C May 16th, 2009 |
| Very big Cabernet with huge tannins. Leaves your mouth completely dry. Very dark red. This really needs time in the bottle. We bought a few bottles to put away as I would like to see how this ages |
| 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay Reserve ($48) | Rating: B-C May 16th, 2009 |
| Much smoother Chardonnay yet bigger than the regular. Nice fruit |
| 2004 Napa Valley Claret ($36) | Rating: B May 16th, 2009 |
| Very dark red in color and big tannins. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cab Franc, 5% Petite Verdot. Needs time to open up |
| 2006 Napa Valley Chardonnay ($30) | Rating: A-B May 16th, 2009 |
| I found the Chardonnay quite tart and was not mad about it. "Apples". Definitely not your typical buttery Chardonnay though |
