One of our favourite winery experiences. We turned up in a limo bus with 15 people for lunch at the winery and were greeted by Tom Farella, the winemaker and manager. The winery is difficult to find as it is not signposted, but once you do it is well worth the visit, and a welcome break from the busy wineries Napa is famous for. "Napa Valley the way it used to be". We moved some tables around outside, had lunch and sampled some wines as Tom talked about the wine he was pouring (as his two kids ran between his legs). Very much a small family setup, not only was I impressed with the level of service at the winery, but the wines were also excellent. When we were finished with lunch, we were treated to a barrel tasting and were never charged for any tastings. Highly recommended. |

| 2001 Alta ($50) | Rating: C Dec 8th, 2007 |
| 70% Cabernet, 30% Merlot. Very nice. Smooth finish. Good fruit on the nose, nice smooth flavours on the palate, and balanced medium finish. The 01 is tasting better than the 02 right now and should keep going for a few more years. Very approachable, would go well with steak or lamb. Tasted twice with consistent notes. |

Best Value Wine - June, 2006
Sue was raving about how much she liked the Merlot. It was drinking very well. Soft tannins with a very smooth finish. 89% Merlot, 11% Cabernet. Excellent value. |
| 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon ($32) | Rating: C Jun 10th, 2006 |
| 100% Cabernet. Great structure with a long smooth finish. Soft tannins again, drinking very well. Another nice wine |
| 2002 Alta ($50) | Rating: B-C Sep 1st, 2007 |
| Smells very fruity, medium soft tannins that probably needs another couple of years to hit its peak. A nice wine with good balance, but not a great wine yet. |
| 2003 Merlot ($22) | Rating: B-C Jul 11th, 2008 |
| Nice fruit, good balance - blackberry and raspberry flavours. We had to open a second bottle due to the "Shrimp effect". The first bottle had no fruit and just alcohol - smelled of shrimp according to Izzy. |
| 2005 Syrah ($30) | Rating: B-C Aug 24th, 2008 |
| A new varietal for Farella, this comes with a warning and threatens to be overpowering on the first taste, but it fades gently into a medium long finish. More bark than its bite, a very nice finish and will improve when it has some more bottle time. |
| 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec- Barrel ($0) | Rating: B-C Jul 11th, 2008 |
| Barrel tasting - Very nice, smoother than the other cab. Maturing in older barrels, whis would make a good wine on its own or in a blend. |
| 2007 Merlot - Barrel ($0) | Rating: B-C Jul 11th, 2008 |
| Barrel tasting - very fruity nose from the barrel, surprisingly not too much fruit on the palate. Good structure, maturing in old oak barrels. Should be good when it comes out of the barrel next spring. |
| 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon ($38) | Rating: B Jul 11th, 2008 |
| Nice and dry - good tannins. Good body, will age well.

| 2004 Sauvignon Blanc ($12) | Rating: B Jun 10th, 2006 |
| I really enjoyed this Sauvignon Blanc. It went very well with lunch and was crisp and refreshing. A steal at $12 |
| 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon- Barrel ($0) | Rating: B Jul 11th, 2008 |
| Barrel tasting - smokier nose off the new barrels than the merlot. Smells of black olives and oak. Good structure, but unclear flavours. Might work well within a blend. |
| 2007 Sauvignon Blanc ($15) | Rating: B Jul 11th, 2008 |
| Crisp wth flavours of gooseberry and pineapple. Needs to be chilled more for my taste. |
| 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon (Magnum) ($90) | Rating: A-B May 30th, 2008 |
| Pick your favourite vegetable - especially green. Past its best, stick with the younger wines. Did not age well. Keep with the younger years. |
